Forest School

Forest School

Children in every year group have the opportunity to participate in Forest School which provides a number of opportunities for children to enhance, support and bring to life their knowledge and understanding across a number of subject areas. We also believe that outdoor learning can be therapeutic and has a positive influence on children's health and emotional well-being.

The sessions take place in a local woodland - Tyntesfield in Reception and Leigh Woods in KS1 and KS2. Children and staff travel by coach to the woodland and enjoy half a day at the site. We ask parents to volunteer to ensure a high ratio of adults to children.

During the sessions, our children explore, play and learn in a safe, natural environment. They are encouraged to take risks, make decisions and initiate their own learning experiences, such as tree climbing, den building and working creatively with natural materials. Forest school activities promote good physical and mental health and the sessions are designed to develop resilience, creativity, independence and confidence in each child.

Alongside this, the children learn to care for and respect the woodland. They are encouraged to be inquisitive about the plants and animals that live within the habitat, and in doing so, they develop a positive connection with the natural world. The children learn new skills through practical, hands-on learning and have lots of fun!
